A Trip Along the Central Coast: Day 1, Afternoon at the Hula Hut

Part 4 of a series.

After our enormous lunch at the Custom House (review here) we had to burn some of the calories off—by walking 30 feet to the Hula Hut, an ice cream and candy place next door. I have no idea why the place has a Hawaiian theme, as frozen deserts aren’t exactly in the traditional repertoire of Polynesian cuisine.  But who cares? The place doesn’t take itself too seriously, the sign (picture below) is adorably campy, and the ice cream is yummy.

Aside from an impressive variety of ice cream flavors, the place features a large selection of locally made fudge, and assorted mass-produced beach-themed tsotchkes for sale.  For us, the sugary desserts were the main draw.  After inhaling two large ice cream cones,
